Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts presents the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine with violinist Solomiya Ivakhiv and cellist Sophie Shao

One of the finest symphony orchestras in Eastern Europe, the Grammy-nominated National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (NSOU) will perform American Rhapsody, composed by UConn 2019 Grammy Award-winner Kenneth Fuchs, the Brahms Double Concerto and Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6. Joining the over 100 musician-ensemble will be UConn soloists Solomiya Ivakhiv on violin and Sophie Shao on cello. The audience will delight in this celebratory showcase of UConn music faculty.
Founded in 1949, the NSOU has performed in concert tours throughout Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Belarus, China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, England, Hong Kong, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Arab Emirates. Volodymyr Sirenko has served as the orchestra’s Artistic Director and Chief Conductor since April of 1999, and Alexander Hornostai has been its Managing Director and Producer since 2006.
